About The Position

Under the direction of the Sr Facility Manager, this role works as a team member in an Operations & Maintenance organization that provides a variety of O&M services within a 24/7/365 environment. Provides duties with constant awareness of the need to preserve the reliability of the critical load. Also provides operational support for building systems of other facilities as assigned. Responsible for carrying out maintenance and operations by performing the following duties personally or as a team member in a Data Center Operations & Maintenance environment. The Critical Environments Operator IV (CEO IV) serves as a senior-level technical expert responsible for supporting and maintaining mission-critical data center infrastructure, including power, cooling, and life-safety systems. This role is focused on ensuring continuous uptime through proactive maintenance, real-time system monitoring, and rapid response to equipment alarms, always prioritizing the protection of the critical load. At this level, the operator leads complex operations such as critical switching, system modifications, and incident response, while ensuring strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Method of Procedures (MOPs), Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs), and safety standards. The CEO IV also plays a key role in coordinating vendors, overseeing maintenance activities, and driving accountability through the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). In addition to technical responsibilities, this role acts as a mentor to junior operators, helping guide day-to-day operations, improve processes, and elevate team performance. The ideal candidate brings strong troubleshooting skills, deep knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, mission-critical data center environment.

Requirements

  • Journeyman level skills in electrical, mechanical, HVAC/R disciplines (education or equivalent experience)
  • 3–5+ years of experience in Tier II, III, or IV data centers or equivalent mission-critical / building engineering environments
  • Experience with Work Order Control procedures and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
  • Experience with subcontractor/vendor coordination and oversight
  • Ability to manage KPIs and support capacity planning and reporting
  • Strong troubleshooting ability with building systems using control interfaces (BMS/EPMS)
  • Ability to respond to alarms and stabilize systems in a critical environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel

Nice To Haves

  • Knewoldge to use hand tools, test equipment, and be knowledgeable of maintenance shop practices, with experience at the Journeyman level for Electrical and Mechanical Equipment and systems
  • Knowledge of Visio, AutoCad

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support day-to-day data center operations while ensuring the reliability and protection of the critical load
  • Respond to building system alarms, troubleshoot issues, and stabilize systems prior to OEM/vendor escalation
  • Perform and oversee critical switching, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and safe work procedures to support maintenance and project work
  • Utilize and mentor others on CMMS to manage preventative maintenance, reactive work orders, and labor tracking
  • Coordinate with contractors and vendors to safely execute maintenance activities and ensure quality workmanship
  • Support site startup/commissioning efforts, including procedure review and operational readiness at a new data center site
