About The Position

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team operates the infrastructure and foundational technologies that support Microsoft’s online services, including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and Azure. The Critical Environment Electrical Engineer helps deliver this infrastructure as part of a global portfolio of more than 200 datacenters in 32 countries. The role contributes to electrical engineering design, testing and verification, project implementation, reporting, and documentation for defined hardware features or product extensions. Work is performed with guidance from managers and other engineers, following established processes and safety guidelines. Microsoft emphasizes employee development, inclusion, and environmental sustainability in its datacenter design and operations.

Requirements

• High school qualification or equivalent and 2+ years of experience supporting IT equipment or related technology, or delivering server and network deployment projects in large-scale environments; equivalent experience is also accepted.
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including passing the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field and 5+ years of technical engineering experience.
• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field and 3+ years of technical engineering experience.
• 6+ years of technical engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field and 2+ years of technical engineering experience.
• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field and 1+ year of technical engineering experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist in designing and verifying electrical engineering features or product extensions, applying known solutions and consulting other engineers as needed.
• Read device specifications and develop design documentation, including drawings, specifications, schematics, or diagrams.
• Review supplier or partner technical sheets and select suitable parts for product development.
• Ensure test requirements are included in feature or product documentation and specifications.
• Select appropriate test equipment, write verification test cases, and develop, review, and execute test plans for standard features or products.
• Assist with automated testing solutions, testing environments, external testing supplier or partner selection, and test fixtures.
• Gather and analyze testing data, contribute to quality dashboards or reports, and report common design problems or flaws to engineers or team leads.
• Follow project schedules and plans, track implementation, identify downstream concerns and risks, research tools or processes, and communicate project status or escalate issues.
• Create reports and functional specifications using established procedures and information from audits, development, and verification.
• Document materials, components, and assemblies, and accurately record and track design changes using established release processes.
• Participate in creating intellectual property and may file patents within the role’s area of scope.
