A Data Center Chilled Water Expert (often titled as Critical Cooling Systems Technician, Liquid Cooling SME, or Data Center Facilities Engineer) is responsible for the technical authority, maintenance, and optimization of large-scale chilled water and liquid cooling systems that protect critical production. Responsibilities include performing advanced preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on 2000 ton air-cooled/water-cooled chillers, pumps, cooling towers, piping networks and associated control systems. The role acts as the primary technical authority for rack cooling, Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs), Liquid cooled rack fans and Roof Top Units (RTUs). It also involves monitoring and maintaining technical water chemistry to prevent corrosion and biological growth, conducting regular fluid sampling and pH/conductivity testing. The technician will execute rapid fault isolation for cooling-related alarms and performance deviations, analyze temperature, pressure, and delta-T metrics to optimize system PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) and energy efficiency, and supervise third-party service providers during major repairs (e.g., chiller teardowns) and support commissioning for new infrastructure.
