About The Position

This position is for a Critical Care Technician in the Surgical Day Care/PACU unit, working 16 hours per week with a schedule of two 8-hour shifts, days/evenings. The role involves supporting healthcare teams, maintaining a safe and clean patient environment, managing medical supplies, and assisting physicians and nurses with patient care, treatments, and procedures. The technician will also be involved in patient admissions and discharges, specimen collection, patient transfers, and administrative tasks such as answering phones and filing. A key part of the role includes observing and recording vital signs and intake/output under the direction of a registered nurse, and performing complex patient treatments and procedures according to established policies. The technician will also assist with pre and post-operative patient care in the Surgical Day Care Unit and perform pre-operative checklist verification.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • AHA CPR certification required.
  • Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant or Critical Care Tech (CCT) experience required.
  • Relevant education (such as CNA course or current enrollment in a nursing school) may qualify in lieu of experience.
  • Positive attitude, flexibility and self-direction are a must.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in PACU, SDC or Endoscopy preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Works together with departmental and healthcare teams to complete assignments.
  • Maintains a clean and comfortable environment for patients and visitors.
  • Removes or arranges for removal of safety hazards from environment immediately to prevent potential safety hazards from occurring.
  • Prioritizes and reprioritizes work based on the changing needs of the customers.
  • Maintains established par levels of all medical supplies so that physicians and nursing staff have access to adequate supplies and materials.
  • Orders all medical supplies for the clinical department, as well as, restocks shelves and files for physicians and nurses.
  • Assists physicians with treatments and procedures as requested.
  • Assists in the admission and discharge of patients to expedite care.
  • Assists in the collection of routine specimens.
  • Assists with the transfer of patients to and from other departments utilizing appropriate technique (i.e. body mechanics, transfer mattress).
  • Assists the secretaries by answering phones, scheduling patients and filing, as requested.
  • Observes reports and records non-invasive vital signs and intake and output as directed by the registered nurse and in accordance with Patient Care Service’s Standards.
  • Performs a variety of complex patient treatments and procedures according to standard policies and procedures.
  • Physically prepares patients for and assists care providers with examinations and therapeutic procedures.
  • Assists with pre and post- operative patient admission to the Surgical Day Care Unit.
  • Performs pre-operative checklist verification.
