Critical Care Tech - Med/Surg, Telemetry - Keleman 8 South
About The Position
The Critical Care Tech works under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) to assist patients with activities of daily living and support the overall plan of care. The role includes direct communication and support for the healthcare team, patients, and their families or significant others. The position requires professional ethics and contributes to quality patient care within the organization. Kelemen 8 is a medical-surgical unit caring for patients with a wide variety of diagnoses, illnesses, and disease processes. North and South 8 have telemetry capabilities. The unit experiences frequent admissions and discharges and can accept up to 77 patients. It has two negative-pressure rooms with an anti-room. A pharmacist is present to assist RNs with medication questions and concerns, and multidisciplinary rounds take place Monday through Friday with participation from the healthcare team, patients, and families.
Requirements
- 0–2 years of experience required.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Successful completion of Patient Care Technician training and an active Patient Care Technician certification required.
- AHA Basic Life Support certification required.
- Successful completion of the CPCT-A certification is required.
- Ability to communicate with patients, visitors, and coworkers.
- Ability to identify and communicate changes in patient status.
- Successful phlebotomy and EKG competency must be completed during orientation.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, feeding, hygiene, mobility, and transport, while following standard precautions.
- Perform technical duties as directed by an RN, including phlebotomy, vital signs, point-of-care testing, EKGs, and Foley catheter care, and document appropriately.
- Identify and communicate changes in patient status to the RN and respond appropriately while maintaining safe patient practices.
- Reinforce education for patients and families regarding care needs and safety.
- Participate in patient satisfaction initiatives and performance improvement activities, and assist in orienting new hires.
- Complete annual hospital and unit-specific competencies by the required due date.
- Adhere to safety protocols and quality standards to maintain a safe environment and provide high-quality patient care.
