About The Position

The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) is seeking a Critical Care Technician (CCT) to provide care for critically ill cardiac ICU patients. This 16-bed adult unit serves patients with diagnoses and interventions including hemodynamic monitoring, intra-aortic balloon counter pulsation, ventricular assist devices, CVVH, hypothermia after cardiac arrest, recovery from coronary procedures (including percutaneous aortic and mitral valve replacement), recovery from acute myocardial infarction complicated by cardiogenic shock, arrhythmias, congestive heart failure, respiratory failure, and/or multiple organ dysfunction/failure. The role involves assisting patients with daily living activities, monitoring vital signs, and supporting licensed personnel with exams and treatments. The position requires documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR), ensuring room stocking and cleanliness, managing equipment, and assisting with patient admissions and discharges. The CCT will also help orient new team members, interact effectively with patients and staff, and communicate patient status to nursing staff. A positive, collaborative team environment is fostered.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred
  • Basic Life Support [BLS] Certified
  • Medical Assistant [National Certification]
  • Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician [National Certification]
  • Experience working in patient care/elder care 0-1 year preferred
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Strong patient/customer service skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Proficient in computer skills to work efficiently with electronic medical records.

Nice To Haves

  • More than (1) year clinical patient experience
  • Gap year medical students with patient care experience accepted.

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient care-related duties and clinical functions as assigned, including, but not limited to, performing and documenting point of care, vital signs, EKGs, bathing and other sanitary needs of patients, transferring and assisting with ambulation of patients, 1:1 patient observation for safety purposes, and phlebotomy.
  • Assist RNs and physicians with other exams and treatments as required.
  • Completes all documentation such as height, weight, intake of fluids and food, output of urine/stool/vomit/other drainage, and blood glucose result in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Assists patients with food tray setup, eating, and feeding, as needed.
  • Ensures that patient rooms are stocked, equipped, and cleaned appropriately, as needs indicate and as patient volumes change.
  • Retrieves equipment from other areas, sets up equipment, cleans equipment between patient use, and reports malfunctioning equipment per organizational policy.
  • Assists with admitting and discharging patients.
  • Facilitates orientation of new PCA team members as directed.
  • Interacts with patients, visitors, and other care team members effectively.
  • Communicates with nursing staff effectively and in a timely manner regarding issues related to patient care and condition.
  • Fosters a positive, collaborative team environment that promotes teamwork and professional growth.
