About The Position

The Critical Care Residency Program is a supervised rotational residency tailored to the needs of the New Graduate Nurse. This program's goal is to foster nurse growth and critical care skills in a team-oriented environment. Upon completion of the initial 100-day program, which includes 4-hour classroom sessions for the first 12 weeks, residents will be assigned to a permanent unit for unit-specific orientation. The program offers rotations in various intensive care units, including the 4 Heart Intermediate Intensive Care Unit (4H IICU), Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), and Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU), each providing specialized care for critically ill patients.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross).
  • Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, and walking (Continuous).
  • Ability to bend at the waist (Continuous).
  • Ability to perform gross motor activities with frequent fine motor movements (Continuous).
  • Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations (Continuous).
  • Ability to work in a latex safe environment (Continuous).
  • Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions (Continuous).
  • Ability to be qualified physically for respiratory use, initially and as required (Continuous).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (will be awarded during the program for most nursing areas).

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process.
  • Deliver safe and effective care.
  • Interact with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results.
  • Participate in supervised rotational residency in critical care units.
  • Complete unit-specific orientation after permanent unit assignment.
