The RN Clinician is an experienced healthcare professional with a strong understanding of patient care for a specific population. Using clinical knowledge, research, and experience, they adapt to changing situations and personalize care based on the AACN Synergy Model for Patient Care. They serve as a resource for colleagues and advocate for patients and families. At Emory Decatur Hospital, the open ICU serves as a primary receiving unit for critically ill patients across the hospital and provides care for a diverse, high-acuity patient population. The unit has 32 beds and serves a patient population including Medical, Surgical, Neurological, Stroke, Sepsis, Respiratory Failure, Post-Operative, STEMI, and Cardiogenic shock patients, as well as other critically ill adult patients requiring intensive monitoring and care. The nurse-to-patient ratio is primarily 1:2, with 1:1 assignments for higher acuity patients as indicated, and a maximum ratio of 1:3. A comprehensive orientation program tailored to experience level is provided, along with opportunities for specialty certification, participation in rapid response, stroke care, shared governance, and professional development.
