About The Position

This position is for a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) at Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. The RN will be responsible for providing professional registered nursing services to patients with complex and unpredictable health needs. This includes independent nursing services, administering prescribed medical treatments, acting as a leader within the healthcare team, and coordinating patient care and discharge. The role requires a commitment to the vision, values, goals, and objectives of the region, facility, and unit. This is a designated Indigenous competition, open only to Indigenous applicants who are required to self-declare and will be asked interview questions related to the designation. Shared Health leads health service integration across Manitoba and supports centralized administrative functions. Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing education program required.
  • 1-year recent acute care experience required.
  • Satisfactory employment record required.
  • Successful completion of the Critical Care Nursing Orientation Program (CCNOP) within four (4) months of date of hire.
  • Successful Completion of Critical Care Rhythms Course is a prerequisite. Applicants that have taken an alternate rhythm course will be required to successfully complete a validation test.
  • Responsible for maintaining and providing proof of registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
  • Basic Life Support training at the Health care provider level is required.
  • Knowledge of College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses.
  • Knowledge of Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).
  • Knowledge of Regional/Facility/Unit policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of Nursing care related to the clinical area.
  • Knowledge of Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions) and other legislated acts.
  • Knowledge of Roles and responsibilities of members of the healthcare team.
  • Knowledge of Principles of delegation.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking/problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize care for an individual patient or group of patients.
  • Ability to respond to a variety of simultaneous demands.
  • Ability to recognize and pursue self-development opportunities.

  • Current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment.

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support training an asset.

Benefits

  • Pensionable Salary Enhancement - Nurses in eligible classifications may be eligible to earn an additional $5.95/hour when working full-time hours within a prescribed six-month reporting period. (Effective April 1, 2025 – March 31st 2027.)
