About The Position

The Critical Care Educator is a nurse with sound clinical experience, emotional intelligence, situational awareness and outstanding critical thinking skills lending one the ability to communicate well with his/her peer group in the Critical Care. This role involves coordinating education for nurses in the critical care service line, including evaluation and development of unit and individual staff education, orientation of new ICU staff, and implementation of new treatment modalities. The educator will adapt teaching plans for various learning styles and ensure staff are educated on assessment, critical thinking, and intervention to assist them in coordinating total patient care. They will also plan, develop, and coordinate the didactic orientation program for newly hired Critical Care employees and assess unit-specific educational needs, implementing varied in-services. The role requires maintaining professional skills, current clinical certifications, and sharing knowledge through formal in-services and point-of-care skill development. The educator must demonstrate behaviors necessary for age-specific care and possess knowledge of the decision-making process for all ages of the population served.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree
Four years of related experience.
Requires broad knowledge of complex systems and procedures.
CRITICAL CARE REGISTERED NURSE
ACLS INSTRUCTOR
GEORGIA REGISTERED NURSE LICENSE OR MULTISTATE NURSING LICENSE
Clinical experience to include care and management of the following patient populations: (A) Intra Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), (B) Hemodynamic monitoring, (c) CRRT, (D) 12 lead EKG interpretation, (E) Rhythm interpretation, (F) Management of a ventilator patient, and (G) Management of patient recieving PCI.
Documentation of experience in the provision of education for bedside clinicians.
Ability to adjust the teaching plan to accommodate the visual learners, the auditory learners, the reading writing-preference learners, as well as the kinesthetic learner.
Must receive ACLS Instructor Certification within 90 days of starting role.
Must become Critical Care Registered Nurse within 6 months of starting role.

Responsibilities

Demonstrates knowledge of the nursing process in patient assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, and documentation.
Demonstrates natural leadership ability and displays a high degree of tact and diplomacy.
Demonstrates advanced knowledge and skills in medication and I.V. drug administration.
Effectively operates and understands the use of specialized equipment and the clinical indications for use.
Capable of trouble shooting equipment problems or obtaining assistance for when indicated.
Demonstrates the ability to educate bedside clinicians regarding assessment, critical thinking, and intervention to assist them in the coordination of total patient care to management biophysical and psychosocial needs of the patient in a family oriented environment.
Plans, develops, and coordinates the didactic orientation program for the newly hired Critical Care employees.
Adapts the orientation process to accommodate nurses with varying degrees of experience and education.
Assessment of unit specific educational needs, with implementation of varied in-services based on assessment findings.
Goal of monthly educational offerings to include an advanced critical care course annually.
Provision of CEU's or Certs with educational offerings.
Inclusion of current research and evidenced based practice as a component of the curriculum.
Maintenance of the staff's education records.
Collaborates with nurse manager to develop a level of excellence in the critical care staff.
Maintains and updates professional skills, maintains current clinical certification, and shares knowledge with staff by developing formal in-services as well as point of care skill development.
Demonstrates behaviors necessary for age-specific care and knowledge of decision-making process for all ages of population(s) served.
Demonstrates ability to communicate appropriately with various ages.
Employee performs within the prescribed limits of Tanner Health System's Ethics and Compliance program.
Is responsible to detect, observe, and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, the Compliance Officer, or the Hotline.
Coordination of education for the nurses in the critical care service line to include evaluation and development of unit and individual staff education, orientation of new ICU staff, and implementation of new treatment modalities as they arise.
