The Critical Care Educator is a nurse with sound clinical experience, emotional intelligence, situational awareness and outstanding critical thinking skills lending one the ability to communicate well with his/her peer group in the Critical Care. This role involves coordinating education for nurses in the critical care service line, including evaluation and development of unit and individual staff education, orientation of new ICU staff, and implementation of new treatment modalities. The educator will adapt teaching plans for various learning styles and ensure staff are educated on assessment, critical thinking, and intervention to assist them in coordinating total patient care. They will also plan, develop, and coordinate the didactic orientation program for newly hired Critical Care employees and assess unit-specific educational needs, implementing varied in-services. The role requires maintaining professional skills, current clinical certifications, and sharing knowledge through formal in-services and point-of-care skill development. The educator must demonstrate behaviors necessary for age-specific care and possess knowledge of the decision-making process for all ages of the population served.
