About The Position

Join our compassionate, collaborative team as a Crisis Counselor, CCP and play a vital role in supporting individuals, families, and communities impacted by federally declared disasters. We are seeking caring, adaptable professionals with strong communication skills, empathy, and a commitment to helping others navigate challenging circumstances. The Crisis Counselor, CCP is funded by FEMA and SAMHSA and provides outreach, emotional support, public education, community networking, and referral services to individuals affected by disasters. This role works directly with community members, organizations, and stakeholders to promote resilience, emotional recovery, and access to supportive resources.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to provide support and education to individuals and groups experiencing crisis-related stress.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Current valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and current automobile insurance required.
  • Successful completion of background screenings, including criminal history, driving record, abuse/neglect, and fingerprint checks.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, as program and community needs require.
  • Ability to effectively represent the program within the community and collaborate with diverse populations.

Nice To Haves

  • Disaster response experience preferred.
  • Understanding of disaster response services, community resources, and local support systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide emotional support, outreach services, education, and resource referrals to individuals, families, and groups affected by disasters.
  • Deliver engaging presentations and educational sessions focused on disaster reactions, stress management, resilience, and coping strategies.
  • Connect community members with appropriate local resources and support services to promote recovery and wellbeing.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations, stakeholders, and partners.
  • Represent the Crisis Counseling Program (CCP) at community events, meetings, and outreach activities.
  • Participate in program data collection, reporting activities, and required documentation processes.
  • Complete required training and professional development activities related to disaster response and crisis counseling.
  • Support program operations and perform other duties as assigned.
