We are seeking team-oriented Crisis Consultant Interns to provide hotline services including mental health support, crisis de-escalation, and give information, resources and referrals to callers. Gain meaningful, hands-on experience supporting individuals and communities in moments of need. We offer flexible work hours with occasional weekend and overnight shifts. This is a great opportunity for students currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs in psychology, social worker, public health, human services or related fields.

Requirements

  • Must be 18+ years of age.
  • GED or high school diploma required.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm in high-stress situations.
  • Reliable and organized with attention to detail.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.

Nice To Haves

  • Some college is preferred.
  • Students currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs in psychology, social worker, public health, human services or related fields.

Responsibilities

  • Assist callers in crisis by providing emotional support, crisis de-escalation and safety planning.
  • Utilizes active listening techniques to assist callers in de-escalating crises.
  • Provides immediate telephone crisis management to callers identified at risk for suicide or other mental health emergency and assists in stabilization of the caller.
  • Coordinates with other agencies and law enforcement as needed to assist callers in response to crisis.
  • Establish a rapport with callers and assist the caller to handle the presenting concern.
  • Maintains current knowledge of community resources to aid callers in providing appropriate linkage to needed services and supports.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation.
