About The Position

The Criminalist performs digital evidence examinations—including video, audio, and mobile device examinations—on items collected from fire and explosion incidents across Ohio. The role testifies in court regarding examination results, provides presentations and training to investigators throughout Ohio, and contributes to a team operating under an ANAB ISO 17025 accreditation program. The position is with the Ohio Department of Commerce, Division of the State Fire Marshal, whose work includes fire safety, firefighter training, public education, fire and explosion investigations, and regulation of fire-related industries.

Requirements

• Completion of an undergraduate core program in computer forensics, digital forensics, multimedia, forensic science, or a related field commensurate with the program area, such as video/audio analysis or mobile forensics involving cellphones and vehicle forensics.
• One year of pertinent laboratory experience commensurate with the job duties.
• Valid driver's license.
• Equivalent of the minimum class qualifications for employment may be accepted.
