About The Position

The Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission (WSCJTC) is recruiting for two (2) part-time Criminal Justice Trainer 4 positions to serve as expert level trainers within the Advanced Training Division (ATD). These positions will support ATD’s mission to elevate public safety across the state through specialized training and education, which fosters expertise and advances the professional development of law enforcement personnel beyond the foundational academy training. The focus of these positions is to deliver high-quality training for the Building Public Trust, Leadership, and FTO/PTO programs. As subject matter experts (SME) they will train in topics related to law enforcement policies, procedures, and tactics, as well as law enforcement leadership practices. Requirements

  • 20 years of criminal justice experience (law enforcement and/or corrections).
  • 10 or more years of experience delivering approved curriculum to adult learners within both small and large groups.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in positions requiring strong verbal and written communication skills (experience may run concurrently with the above).
  • At least five (5) years of experience working collaboratively with varying groups of professionals.
  • At least five (5) years of progressive leadership experience at the rank of sergeant or above (experience as an FTO/PTO or TAC Officer may count toward leadership).
  • The ability to take action to learn and grow.
  • The ability to take action to meet the needs of others.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public administration, sociology, psychology, adult education, a degree plan specific to the course taught, or other similar degree plan.
  • 25 years of experience in criminal justice (law enforcement and/or corrections).
  • 15 or more years of experience training criminal justice professionals, either as a WSCJTC Criminal Justice Trainer 2 or higher, or within a criminal justice agency.
  • 7 or more years of supervisory experience and knowledge of the principles of efficient supervision and management.
  • 7 years or more of progressive leadership experience at the rank of sergeant or above (experience as an FTO/PTO or TAC Officer may count toward leadership).

Responsibilities

  • Delivers core curriculum for the Building Public Trust, Leadership, and FTO/PTO Program, focusing on evidence-based practices and adult learning principles.
  • Leads interactive and engaging training sessions, including scenario-based training and group discussions.
  • Conduct role-playing exercises and simulations to enhance learning.
  • Oversee the learning environment by setting the tone and modeling proper behaviors for staff and students.
  • Serves as both primary and secondary (depending on the course) instructor and communicates regularly with other instructors, program managers, and external partners regarding student performance.
  • Distributes equipment and supplies for training purposes.
  • Provides feedback for other instructors and conducts regular debriefs to improve curriculum delivery.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert in topics related to law enforcement policies, procedures, and tactics, as well as law enforcement leadership practices.
  • As an SME, performs curricula updates for all courses in the Building Public Trust, Leadership, & FTO/PTO programs.
  • Performs file maintenance activities in accordance with RCWs, WACs, state of Washington and agency-specific retention schedules, as well as WSCJTC policy, procedures, and guidelines.
