About The Position

Serve as the statewide subject matter expert and lead trainer on domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, child abuse, and human trafficking, with a primary focus on training law enforcement professionals across Alaska. Develop, coordinate, and deliver comprehensive, evidence-based training programs for law enforcement, victim services, and criminal justice partners across Alaska. Lead program management activities, including policy development, implementation, review of statutory changes, and technical assistance to statewide stakeholders. Supervise staff by planning, assigning, and monitoring work; setting priorities; evaluating performance; and supporting employee development, with authority to recommend or take action on hiring, promotion, discipline, discharge, or grievance matters. Oversee federal VAWA STOP grant components, including budgeting, reporting, and monitoring compliance and program outcomes. The Division of Victim Assistance & Forensic Science is dedicated to upholding the rights of victims of crime and providing victim-centered support to those impacted by crime. We strengthen Alaska’s criminal justice system through science, training, and services that enhance public safety, prevention efforts, and community trust. Your work in this role directly supports statewide consistency, best-practice response, and long-term improvements in victim services and justice outcomes.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to those typically gained by: Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible experience in social work, criminal justice, law, sociology, psychology, political science, planning, business, public administration, or a closely related field performing law enforcement or adjudication, corrections, adult or juvenile justice, or crime prevention.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Incumbent must submit to a fingerprint based criminal history background check.
  • Applicant with criminal convictions will not move forward in the selection process.
  • Must read, understand, and agree to via signature, an agreement of confidentiality concerning the work commonly encountered within the Department of Public Safety.

Nice To Haves

  • Person with background/experience in adult education.
  • Person with APSC instructor certification in Domestic Violence, Sex Crimes, Stalking, Investigations within six months of hire. (Department will provide/facilitate training if applicant/incumbent is not yet certified at time of hire.
