About The Position
This is a non-merit, unpaid internship position. Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise. The 5th District, Department of Corrections has an exciting Administrative & Data internship opportunity for Spring 2027. This role offers hands-on experience in corrections administration, data management, financial collections, and criminal justice information systems. Please note that these internship opportunities are unpaid.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age and have completed at least two years of college by the start of the internship
- Must be currently enrolled at an accredited educational institution with coursework in criminal justice, corrections, sociology, psychology, social work, business, accounting, information technology, or data management
- Comfortable being in a criminal justice environment
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
- High ethical standards and professional judgment
- Self-driven and accountable
- Flexible and open to change
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Positive attitude and commitment to customer service
- Experience with Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, databases, or other data-entry systems

- Accurate entry and maintenance of DNA-related information in a statewide data system
