About The Position

The Office of Juvenile Justice is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Criminal Investigator 2 to support Investigative Services through thorough, objective, and policy-driven investigative work. In this role, you will conduct investigations into criminal violations, staff misconduct, youth abuse allegations, and violations of departmental policies and procedures. You will gather and analyze evidence, interview witnesses and involved parties, review video footage, prepare clear investigative reports, and document findings in required systems. As a POST-certified law enforcement professional, you will also support daily unit operations, assist with policy and procedure development, coordinate responses to inquiries from leadership and external partners, and provide expert guidance on investigative standards. This position requires strong communication skills, excellent report writing, and the ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and integrity. You will serve as a key resource for agency leadership, collaborate with law enforcement and legal partners, respond to major incidents, and ensure investigative practices meet state, federal, and agency requirements. Your work will directly support safety, accountability, and compliance across the organization.

Requirements

  • One year of experience in investigatory work while employed as a commissioned law enforcement officer
  • Two years of experience in law enforcement, investigatory work or military intelligence work; OR Twelve hours in law enforcement or a criminal justice field.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
  • Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
  • An applicant will be disqualified if he or she has been convicted of a felony or if there are any indictments or bills of information pending against him or her in which felony charges are included; or if he or she has been convicted within the past three years of hit and run or driving while intoxicated.
  • Must not have been convicted or pled nolo contendere to a crime listed in R.S. 15:587.1 (c)
  • Applicants must have Civil Service test scores for 2100-Protective Services Exam (PSE) in order to be considered for this vacancy unless exempted by Civil Service rule or policy.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough investigations into criminal violations, staff misconduct, youth abuse allegations, and policy breaches.
  • Review video footage, examine documents, collect and safeguard evidence, and follow proper evidence-handling protocols.
  • Interview youth, staff, witnesses, and alleged perpetrators; conduct interrogations; and make arrests when directed.
  • Prepare clear, detailed investigative reports and document findings in required databases and systems.
  • Monitor communication systems to identify potential escapes or criminal activity.
  • Apply investigative techniques to bring cases to a logical conclusion and ensure compliance with departmental, state, and federal standards.
  • Interpret, implement, and help develop policies and procedures for Investigative Services.
  • Serve as a resource for leadership, auditors, attorneys, and other stakeholders; respond to inquiries and provide updates on case status.
  • Maintain organized case files, correspondence, and investigative records; support disciplinary reviews involving staff.
  • Remain available for major incidents (escapes, riots, emergencies) and assist with case management and tactical response.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement, district attorneys, and external agencies; conduct investigations beyond the assigned location when needed.
  • Review Unusual Occurrence Reports, conduct internal audits, and ensure compliance with investigative protocols.
  • Train staff on investigative procedures and safeguard all property, records, and evidence under control.
  • Participate in monthly reporting and serve on the Chase/Response Team for escape tracking.
