About The Position

The Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI) serves as Utah’s repository for criminal history records. This position supports state and federally grant-funded projects focused on managing and maintaining these criminal histories. A successful candidate will be responsible for: Data Entry and Record Maintenance: Performing data entry and updates for criminal records, including demographic and charge information. Research and Analysis: Accurately compiling, comparing, and researching criminal history records to ensure data accuracy for critical determinations, including employment, expungement, and firearm ownership eligibility. This includes locating and connecting court disposition information with corresponding criminal incidents. Confidentiality and Professionalism: Maintaining the utmost discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive and confidential criminal history information.

Requirements

  • Must pass a comprehensive level II Criminal History background check.
  • Successful completion of the probationary and training period.
  • Minimum typing speed of 30 words per minute (WPM).
  • Proficiency in computer use, including the ability to navigate various websites and computer programs simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with standard software such as Google Sheets, Google Docs, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to research, interpret, and apply Utah statutes, administrative rules, and BCI policies related to Criminal History records.
  • A logical and analytical approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Ability to communicate both written and verbal information and ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines in a high-volume environment.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
