About The Position

Our Criminal Court Services Department is searching for a dedicated and dynamic Courtroom Clerk – an exciting role where no two days look the same! As a Courtroom Clerk in Criminal, you will receive comprehensive on-the-job training in processing a variety of Criminal Court proceedings, such as traffic court, misdemeanor court, and felony court. In this exciting role, some of your primary responsibilities will include: intaking evidence of all shapes and sizes that is admitted during proceedings, administering oaths to witnesses and jurors; reading the final verdict at trials. You will also be seated beside the Judge, fully immersed in the day-to-day activity of the courtroom. Please be advised that in Criminal Court, you will be exposed to sensitive material that may include autopsy & crime scene photos, testimony of victims, narcotics, and weapons. A courtroom clerk plays an integral part of our courtroom team by accurately capturing the official record of the hearing's events in a fast-paced and dynamic courtroom environment. They work closely with judges, hearing officers, bailiffs, defense attorneys, prosecuting attorneys, interpreters and other criminal justice partners to ensure an accurate court record is maintained. They update the court record in real time by entering data into an electronic case management system.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree supplemented by three (3) years of recent and relevant experience required.
  • In lieu of an Associate’s degree, two (2) years of direct work experience and one (1) year of supplemental work experience is required.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to accurately apply acute attention to detail in maintenance of detailed data preferably in an automated systems environment.
  • Once qualified deputization may be required to perform the assigned functions.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately record details of court proceedings entering items into an electronic database such as: court proceedings notes, hearing information and outcomes, trial proceedings and outcomes, bail bonds, motions, dispositions, parties involved, evidence, obligations, judgment, and sentence information.
  • Function as procedural and operational liaison, in the courtroom, between Judges, attorneys and the public.
  • Review all case files and database entries for accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain flexibility and professionalism when fulfilling responsibilities for assigned courtrooms.
  • Act as a team player by sharing knowledge and information on courtroom processes and procedures.
  • Handle multiple tasks, including listening, writing, scheduling court dates, answering questions, entering data quality, and monitoring the flow and electronic record of the court proceedings.
  • Cover all types of high-volume, fast-paced courtrooms either independently or as part of a team.
  • Adjust and maintain working knowledge of changing technology.
  • Ability to work overtime with little or no notice based on Judicial needs.
