About The Position

The purpose of this position is to manage, coordinate, monitor, and provide case assistance for victims or families that have criminal cases within the Bell County District Attorney’s Office. Provide comprehensive assistance and liaison to victims of crime and the prosecutor. Provide crisis intervention, individual options counseling, referral, and advocacy. Working closely with community agencies, law enforcement, and courts to ensure victims can access and negotiate community resources. The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary. Administer programs and implement policies to keep victims informed of the status of their case as it moves through the legal system, providing them with information and emotional support, explaining basic concepts of a criminal trial and of testifying in a criminal trial. Establish initial personal line of communication with victims and advise victims of statutory rights. Maintain Communications with victims regarding case status. Serve as liaison between victims and attorneys, consulting with attorneys regarding trial preparation/victim opinion. Schedule and participate in meetings with victim/witnesses to assist attorney staff in gathering facts. Attend the hearing with the victims. Interpret and explain policy, regulations, statutes, and procedures to victims/witnesses. Advise victims of the availability of support services and encourage and assist victims in contacting and commencing the utilization of those services. Provide appropriate referrals. Advise victims of their right to compensation through the Attorney General’s Office. Assists in obtaining and completing application forms. Maintain the current database of information for victims, including contact information. Maintain and manage reports and records documenting victim services rendered. Assist victims following case disposition. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or related field. In lieu of a degree, 5+ years’ experience in a relevant field.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with victims, co-workers, and the general public.
Knowledge of criminal procedure and its application to crimes and crime victims from initial prosecution through final dispositions.
Knowledge of local social service agencies and the services they provide.
Ability to be tactful and adept in dealing with a wide variety of people.
Ability to deal with the public in difficult/stressful situations.
Ability to work with and manage materials in a confidential manner.
Ability to organize workload to efficiently prioritize/meet multiple demands and deadlines.
Ability to work cooperatively with coworkers as a team player.
Ability to work independently on a variety of assignments.
Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions, adhere to schedules, and perform work assignments.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department personnel, attorneys, law enforcement personnel, experts, and the general public.
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language.
