About The Position

The Crime Prevention Inspector is responsible for educating and informing the citizens of Atlanta about being proactive about crime prevention. This role supports the Atlanta Police Department's mission of reducing crime and promoting the quality of life through partnerships with the community. The inspector will educate and instruct citizens on being proactive and offer tips on how to prevent crime, thereby improving the quality of life for the whole community. This is an entry-level position within the job family, requiring individuals to possess basic knowledge of the work and the necessary motor skills and physical capabilities to perform basic tasks. Individuals at this level typically perform the simplest pertinent tasks and assist higher-level workers with more complex jobs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) is required.
  • Six (6) months public contact or customer service experience or closely related experience.
  • Valid Georgia driver's license.
  • Knowledge of City operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of public safety operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Skill in compiling, analyzing, and preparing a variety of departmental records and reports.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers, enforcement personnel, outside agencies, community organizations, and the general public.
  • Ability to respond appropriately and take appropriate enforcement or control action as required.
  • Ability to complete investigation, make determination regarding enforcement action required and complete reports and documentation.
  • Ability to conduct and complete any required follow-up activities assuring accuracy and thoroughness.

Nice To Haves

  • State of Georgia Peach Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certification (desired).
  • Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) certification (desired).
  • Associate's degree or vocational training degree/certification in public administration or related field and two (2) years' of relevant work experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Attends neighborhood watch group meetings and various other community and departmental meetings.
  • Instructs citizens on crime preventative and safety measures.
  • Prepares write-ups of each meeting or function attended.
  • Contacts other agencies in search of answers for community issues and contacts citizens for follow-up on issues and concerns.
  • Researches and prepares informational flyers and handouts.
  • Interacts with Zone staff and other Crime Prevention Inspectors.
  • Patrols assigned area, conducts checks, and monitors process for all aspects of program within the City.
  • Develops stronger relationships through seminars and interactions with the community and others, assuring the demonstration of professionalism.
  • Develops curriculum for crime prevention seminars and programs.
  • Follows standardized procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • May oversee temporary or contract workers as needed.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • The position follows the City’s hybrid work schedule policy as assigned by the Department of Human Resources Commissioner and requires in-person work at City worksites/facilities at least four (4) days per week, with the option to work remotely one (1) day per week, based on eligibility, departmental needs, and supervisor approval.
