About The Position

The City of Cibolo is seeking a highly motivated Crime Analyst to join our team. As a key member of the Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division and the newly created HEAT (Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic) Team, the Crime Analyst performs a variety of strategic, tactical and administrative duties relating to the systematic process of collecting, categorizing, analyzing and disseminating timely, accurate and useful information for the City and the Police Department. This role manages crime analysis duties involving, recording and maintaining analysis of raw data of criminal patterns, trends and potential suspects, reviews video and helps to investigate theft rings and crime sprees with a specific focus on motor vehicle related criminal activity. This role would also assist with any other duties as assigned by the Police Chain of Command. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in police science, criminology, sociology, public administration, computer science, statistics, math, or related areas of study.
  • Two (2) years of experience in a law enforcement agency as an analyst OR Four (4) years of experience in a law enforcement agency as an analyst with an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver's License.
  • Cybersecurity and CJIS; must maintain.
  • The candidate must never have been convicted, put on court-ordered community supervision, or probation for any criminal offense above the grade of Class B Misdemeanor or a Class B Misdemeanor within the last ten years from the date of the court order. Class A Misdemeanor Conviction, Deferred Adjudication, or Felony Conviction are permanent disqualifiers.
  • Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check and credit check.
  • Must be in compliance with the department’s drug policy.
  • Ability to work irregular hours and schedule at times to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the mission statement and values of the City of Cibolo Police Department.
  • Requires a broad knowledge of criminal and civil law, investigative practices and computer databases.
  • Requires effective written and verbal communication skills and proficiency in various software packages.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including the design and use of pivot tables and complex formulas such as hlookup, vlookup, and index.
  • Proficient in computer operation skills with such software as digital imaging.
  • Ability to deal effectively with victims, suspects and criminal justice professionals.
  • Must be a team player who is able to work in a fast-paced environment with deadlines.
  • Requires the ability to produce all reports, correspondence and other documents without support staff.
  • Requires the ability to communicate with internal and external customers and possess excellent customer service skills.
  • The position requires an understanding of patrol deployment, special operations and tactical units, investigations, crime intelligence, social media monitoring, planning and research, crime prevention and administrative services.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers and analyses crime data and reports for crime detection and crime forecasting by reading reports and various documents, completing comprehensive research within computer systems and programs, contacting other agencies for information, preparing reports on crime patterns and suspects and disseminating information to the appropriate departments and outside agencies.
  • Collects and organizes crime bulletins, crime summaries, statistical analyses, crime maps, crime forecasting services, tactical action plans, suspect leads, profiles, and prepares and presents detailed statistical, analytical and research reports.
  • Summarizes information into clear and concise reports; develops and prepares charts, graphs, maps, bulletins and related materials in order to track and present findings related to criminal activity.
  • Develops and produces crime maps using geographic information systems applications; conducts spatial analysis of crime data; prepares a variety of mapping products; prepares and presents a variety of charts, graphs and reports.
  • Maintains liaison with investigative support staff of various local, state and federal law enforcement and prosecution agencies.
  • Communicates and exchanges criminal activities reports, trends and patterns to various division commanders and administrators.
  • Collects, processes and analyses secondary sales data and information, including but not limited to pawnshop, precious metal sales, scrap metal receipts and activity for any significant patterns, which may be attributed to known offenders.
  • Receives, processes, maintains, disseminates and may present various reports and information received from research, other divisions, agencies and the general public.
  • Compiles reports and reference material from existing files as needed for investigative and prosecutorial purposes.
  • Maintains various reference materials as needed by investigative personnel.
  • Coordinates cases and work activities with detectives, outside agencies and specialized investigative units by researching and locating information for cases, including suspect locations, photo spreads, suspect composites and compiling information on suspects and other case components.
  • Determines criminal association and patterns of criminal activity relating to specific offenders or groups of offenders.
  • Conducts background research on suspects or criminals; collects, compiles and analyses intelligence data; and maintains records and intelligence files on certain repeat criminal offenders to recognize modus operandi.
  • Utilizes available county, state and national computer databases to check suspects for warrants and gathers information on suspects to develop investigative leads for current criminal investigations needs.
  • Maintains familiarity with various mainstream social media programs.
  • Maintains the ability to monitor and extract relevant social media activity.
  • Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
  • Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.
  • Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers, and others in the course of daily work.
  • Any other Duties assigned by the Police Chief or Chain of Command.
