About The Position

Apalachee Center, Inc. is best known for helping individuals and families of North Florida succeed in recovering from emotional, psychiatric, and substance abuse crises. Apalachee Center, Inc. provides comprehensive behavioral health services across 8 counties (Franklin, Gadsden, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Taylor, and Wakulla Counties). Overview: Provides secure client transportation to TMBHC and CRMC and provides supervision and care in accordance with professional staff direction and Central Receiving Facility (CRF) procedures. Ensures unit safety and assists clients in activities of daily living. Provides supportive contact with clients.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of related work experience in an inpatient setting preferred.
  • Must obtain and maintain current CPR, First Aid, and CPI certifications.
  • Must possess a current, valid driver's license and maintain Apalachee Center Designated Auto Driver status.
  • Ability to actively listen and establish effective working relationships while demonstrating patience, professionalism, and tact when interacting with clients, staff, families, and the public.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to recognize potential medical and psychiatric emergencies and promptly obtain assistance from appropriate professional staff.
  • Ability to establish and maintain appropriate therapeutic relationships with clients and family members.
  • Ability to maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation in accordance with program requirements.
  • Ability to recognize and appropriately respond to aggressive behavior, potential danger to others, self-harm, or suicide risk.
  • Ability to assist clients in developing basic living and activities-of-daily-living skills.
  • Ability to gather, analyze, and interpret relevant information appropriately.
  • Ability to establish rapport and communicate with clients in a supportive, professional, and empathetic manner.
  • Must attain required job competencies and skills in accordance with established training schedules and within the probationary period.
  • Understanding of behavioral health treatment needs, available treatment resources, and their appropriate use in supporting client treatment goals.
  • Knowledge of accepted ethical and professional standards of conduct.
  • Knowledge of performance improvement principles, tools, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of client safety principles and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Safely supervises and transports clients from the CRF to designated receiving facilities.
  • Ensures client safety throughout transportation and provides a secure handoff to the receiving facility.
  • Accurately completes travel logs for each trip.
  • Maintains the cleanliness and fuel level of assigned vehicles.
  • Submits fuel receipts according to established procedures.
  • Immediately reports vehicle concerns or maintenance needs to the Maintenance Department.
  • When assigned to the CRF unit and not transporting clients: Supervises clients on special observation or precautionary status as assigned by the supervisor and monitors other clients in accordance with program procedures.
  • Assists clients with activities of daily living, including eating, personal hygiene, and ambulation as needed.
  • Assists with maintaining an accurate inventory of client belongings.
  • Monitors client compliance with contraband policies to help maintain the safety and security of clients and staff.
  • Immediately notifies nursing staff of suspected contraband or potentially dangerous items.
  • Communicates important information to nursing staff and counselors regarding client concerns, physical or emotional needs, changes in functioning or status, possible medical or psychiatric emergencies, and potential elopements.
  • Monitors and helps maintain unit cleanliness, organization, safety, and security throughout the shift.
  • Takes appropriate action to prevent or correct safety hazards and provides basic cleaning when needed or directed.
  • Completes required change-of-shift documentation.
  • Assists with the placement of clients into seclusion when directed by nursing staff, using approved techniques and procedures.
  • Observes and documents client behavior in accordance with established procedures.
  • Initiates or responds immediately to a "Code Green" when necessary and in accordance with unit procedures.
  • Participates in shift reports and communicates important information regarding client functioning, status, and special needs to incoming staff.
  • Completes inter-shift checklists to help ensure unit safety, cleanliness, and continuity of care.
  • Attends required staff meetings.
  • At the conclusion of each shift, receives clearance from the unit supervisor before leaving to ensure adequate staffing and continuity of care.
  • Employees may be required to remain on duty when necessary to maintain required or safe staffing levels until appropriate coverage is arranged.
  • Demonstrates the ability to obtain, analyze, and interpret relevant information to assist in determining treatment recommendations and priorities.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of substance use disorders, dependence, addictive behaviors, and appropriate treatment approaches.
  • Recognizes signs and symptoms of substance intoxication, toxicity, withdrawal, and co-occurring mental health concerns.
  • Demonstrates the ability to identify potential danger to self or others.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of available treatment resources and their appropriate use in supporting individualized treatment goals and measurable objectives.
  • Establishes appropriate therapeutic rapport and communicates effectively and empathetically with clients.
  • Protects client rights, confidentiality, and privacy while adhering to accepted ethical and professional standards.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and application of Trauma-Informed Care principles, including recognizing signs and symptoms of trauma and supporting clients in their recovery.
  • Participates in efforts to improve job performance, program effectiveness, and the quality of services provided by the Agency.
  • Demonstrates self-motivation, dependability, flexibility, and a willingness to perform assigned and additional duties as needed.
  • Maintains a positive, respectful, supportive, and professional attitude when interacting with clients, visitors, employees, and members of the public.
  • Promotes and maintains a culture of client safety by proactively identifying and communicating potential risks and taking appropriate action to reduce adverse outcomes.
  • Maintains assigned work hours, punctuality, and appropriate use of leave in accordance with Agency policies and procedures.
