About The Position

The Crewperson 6 must possess exceptional knowledge and demonstrate remarkable skills in the designated job area. Ability to carry out assignments and perform excellent quality work with minimum supervision. Demonstrate outstanding qualities in efficiency, initiative and dependability when completing various tasks. This role involves performing work in a safe manner, assisting with training and supervision of team members, and maintaining good public relations. The position requires assuming responsibility for tools, supplies, and materials, cooperating with other employees, and displaying a willingness to be trained and advance. A strong work ethic oriented toward efficiency and customer service is essential. The role also involves maintaining appropriate licenses and certifications, including a valid Kansas driver’s license, and staying current with technical information and policies. The Crewperson 6 will make decisions and offer solutions to the unit Supervisor concerning field problems, possess superior knowledge of procedures, materials, and equipment, and support organizational goals. Daily schedules may fluctuate, and attendance at required meetings and in-services is necessary. The role works directly or indirectly under the Supervisor, plans and estimates labor and material costs, mixes and applies pesticides safely, maintains and cleans equipment, treats buildings for various pests, inspects and treats for termites, complies with safety regulations, and keeps up-to-date records of treatments. Additional duties may be assigned by the Supervisor. The employee must demonstrate the ability to use various assigned equipment, including hand tools and related power equipment. Travel between schools and central offices will be required.

  • Must have the ability to exercise good judgment in carrying out the assigned tasks and be responsible for planning and charging time and material to the work requests.
  • Have above average knowledge of the insecticides, identification of insects, classifications and functions. Constant efforts are required to remain abreast of new pesticides and regulations governing the use of restricted pesticides.
  • Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors.
  • Will work under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks.

  • In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave.
  • Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator.
  • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position.
  • Required to have and maintain State certification in Category 7a and 7e; wood destroying organisms and general pest control.
  • Maintain a valid Commercial Class C Kansas driver’s license at all times throughout employment

Responsibilities

  • Perform work in a safe manner and report any hazardous conditions
  • Accept the responsibility for assisting with the training, skill development and supervision of other team members.
  • Assist in maintaining good public relations, being cognizant that a Crewperson 6 represents both the Facilities Division and Wichita Public Schools.
  • Assume responsibility for all tools, supplies and materials.
  • Cooperate with other employees and maintain good public relations inside and outside his/her assignment.
  • Display willingness to be trained in all phases of the assignment and to increase his/her skills, thus, qualifying for advancement.
  • Possess a work ethic that is strongly oriented toward both efficiency and customer service.
  • Maintain appropriate licenses and certifications including a valid Kansas driver’s license at all times throughout employment.
  • Maintain current knowledge relating to technical information and policies concerning the Facilities area and assist the Supervisor in assigned administrative tasks.
  • Make decisions and offer solutions to the unit Supervisor concerning problems in the field.
  • Possess superior knowledge of procedures, materials and equipment utilized in the designated area while displaying good workmanship, planning, and leadership.
  • Support the organizational goals, the mission of the School Service Center and the district.
  • Work cooperatively with others and assist in maintaining open lines of communication.
  • Attendance at required meetings and in-services.
  • Work directly or indirectly under the Supervisor.
  • Plan and estimate labor and material costs of assigned jobs. Assists with preliminary budget preparation
  • Mix and apply pesticides in a safe manner according to label directions and state regulations
  • Maintain and clean sprayers and dusters
  • Treat the exterior, perimeter and interior of buildings for roaches, ants, spiders and various other insects
  • Inspect and treat buildings for termites
  • Comply with all safety regulations as set forth by the State of Kansas Board of Agriculture
  • Keep up to date records of any interior or exterior treatments for three years as required by law
  • Instruct employees on proper use of spray equipment and calibrations of chemicals and inform them of the proper applications procedures
  • Participate in snow removal operations to ensure safe and accessible school grounds
  • Assist with additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Use hand tools of trade and related power equipment.
  • Maintain and service equipment and train crew members to do the same.
  • Must properly mix and use the chemicals and maintain accurate records of treatment.
