About The Position

Crewperson 6a-c shall possess exceptional knowledge and demonstrate remarkable skills in the designated job area. They shall have the ability to carry out assignments and perform work of excellent quality with minimum supervision. They should demonstrate outstanding qualities in efficiency, initiative and dependability when completing various tasks. Must be able to install and maintain any high or low voltage electrical system in the district. This would include but not limited to 120/208v and 277/480v wiring, networking and phones, intercoms and cameras, card access systems, fire alarm systems and fiber optic cabling, DDC controls and motor starters, stage lighting and motor controls, with very minimal supervision. Teaching helpers and apprentices the electrical trade.

Requirements

  • A HS Diploma or GED is preferred
  • Maintain a valid Kansas driver’s license throughout entirety of employment
  • Current MABCD Electrical Journeyman or Master license preferred but not required
  • Ability to perform all tasks and work the hours required
  • Ability to work indoors, and outdoors in extreme heat and cold and outdoors in inclement weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, or snow
  • Ability to wear proper safety equipment as required while performing the various tasks required for this position
  • Ability to work overtime on short notice may be required
  • Work in standard office, shop and school building environments
  • Ability to work in confined or high spaces; some strenuous physical work
  • Ability to work productively in stressful situations
  • Ability to plan, organize, make decisions and prioritize work to meet the daily demands of the building
  • Basic computer proficiency and the ability to effectively use Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Exhibit a professional manner and a positive attitude
  • Must be detail oriented
  • Use good judgment to make decisions on recurring assignments
  • Display a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality
  • Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and written in order to communicate with others inside and outside of the organization for the purpose of giving and obtaining information
  • Knowledge of various types of materials and procedures used in the area is essential
  • Display initiative in the performance of assigned tasks – either working alone or as a part of a crew
  • Assist in maintaining a harmonious and efficient operation
  • Maintain current knowledge relating to technical information and policies concerning this Facilities area, and assists the Supervisor in assigned administrative tasks
  • Use hand tools of trade and related power equipment.
  • Travel between schools and central offices is required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform work in a safe manner and report any hazardous conditions
  • Assist in maintaining good public relations, being cognizant that a Crewperson 6a-c represents both the Facilities Division and the Wichita Public Schools
  • Cooperate with other employees and maintain good public relations inside and outside his/her assignment
  • Display willingness to be trained in all phases of assignments and increase his/her skills, thus, qualifying for advancement
  • Possess a work ethic that is strongly oriented toward both efficiency and customer service
  • Maintain appropriate licenses and certifications including a valid Kansas driver’s license at all times throughout employment
  • Possess superior knowledge of procedures, materials and equipment utilized in the designated area while displaying good workmanship, planning, and leadership
  • Support the organizational goals, the mission of the School Service Center and the district
  • Work cooperatively with others and assist in maintaining open lines of communication
  • Work directly or indirectly under the Supervisor
  • Daily schedule may fluctuate to accommodate deadlines and delivery of services
  • Work varies from the simple replacement of a switch to the service, maintenance, and installation of the most technical and complex electrical systems
  • Maintain knowledge of the latest methods and procedures utilized in the assigned unit
  • Assume responsibility for all tools, supplies, and materials
  • Attendance at required meetings and in-services
  • Perform maintenance on all district electrical systems (outlets, ballast, contactors, disconnects, etc.)
  • New installation of any high or low voltage electrical system
  • Keep up with current NEC codes and be able to use the NEC book
  • Requisition material when requested
  • Work on scoreboards
  • Work with bleacher and basketball goal controls
  • Work on various stage equipment, such as stage lighting
  • Control equipment such as magnetic starters
  • Overhead door controls
  • Perform maintenance on all district electrical systems (outlets, ballast, contactors, disconnects etc.)
  • Constantly have the ability to evolve with the industry as well as taking on additional tasks such as computer networking, installation of fiber optics, cable television wiring, closed circuit television, and security, telephone cabling and the installation of anything closely resembling wire
  • Make decisions and offers solutions to the unit Supervisor(s) concerning problems in the field
  • Assist with additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
