About The Position

Deckhands perform supportive duties as directed and work under immediate supervision. The level and degree of job responsibilities and requirements vary depending on months of experience and assigned job step. This position involves a 21/21 rotation, meaning 21 days on duty followed by 21 days off. The role requires the ability to live aboard the vessel for the full rotation and work 84-hour work weeks. This is a semi-skilled position.

Requirements

  • Ability to work 84 hour work week (21/21 Rotation)
  • Ability to live aboard vessel for full rotation.
  • Ability to understand hand signals.
  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with craft workers under his/her supervision and management/supervision.
  • Knowledge of the safe and efficient use of hand tools, power tools and layout tools.
  • Merchant Mariner Credential (preferred)
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) preferred, or willing to obtain upon hire.
  • Must be able to tolerate rough seas, vibrations, heat, harsh weather conditions, confined spaces, and high noise levels.
  • Work will frequently require individuals to push, pull, bend or stand for long periods of time, and climb ladders.
  • Must be able to lift or carry miscellaneous equipment, supplies and parts up to 50 lbs. unassisted.

  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) or willing to obtain upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and assist with securing mooring lines to the dredge, scows, dredge Tender or attending plant.
  • Splice and repair cables and towing ropes.
  • Assist with the lubrication of deck machinery.
  • Load and unload materials from the dredge, deck barges, scows and miscellaneous dredging equipment.
  • Sweep and wash down all decks on the dredge and attending plant.
  • Chip and paint decks and superstructure of the dredge and attending plant.
  • Assist with work on the pontoon line, submerge line, scow or attending plant.
  • Assist with work on the anchors and spud systems.
  • Assist with cleaning of the pump and work on the cutter head.
  • Responsible for the safe and timely deployment of survival craft and evacuation of site personnel (If has MMC with AB endorsement).
  • Follow company and work site safety policies/procedures and commit to an “Incident and Injury Free” work environment.
