About The Position

The purpose of this role is to supervise crew members, participate in the construction and maintenance of County Roads, bridges, and drainage systems, and perform related duties as required. The position operates within a general framework of work and develops methods and sequences under general supervision.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least five (5) years of related work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises assigned crew, including instructing, assigning, reviewing, and planning work; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; selecting new employees; addressing employee problems; and recommending discipline or discharge.
  • Reviews the work of crew members for completeness and accuracy, providing recommendations and assistance.
  • Inspects streets for maintenance needs and assists in scheduling maintenance and repair work.
  • Directs work crews in the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sidewalks, driveways, and curbs.
  • Supervises and performs related work, including installing, maintaining, and repairing drainage pipes, and digging/cleaning drainage ditches and catch basins.
  • Assists with asphalt projects.
  • Installs street signs.
  • Removes animal carcasses from County roadways.
  • Inspects road systems during and after heavy rains and assists with clean-up efforts.
  • Assists in determining the type and quantity of equipment, materials, and supplies needed for assigned projects.
  • Inspects the work of work crews and contractors for compliance with policies, procedures, laws, regulations, contracts, permits, and standards of quality and safety.
  • Assists crew members with difficult tasks and operates trucks and construction equipment as necessary.
  • Ensures the proper maintenance of assigned tools and equipment.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate and complete work records and reports.
  • Responds to inquiries, concerns, complaints, and requests for assistance regarding areas of responsibility.
  • Attends training, meetings, and workshops to enhance job knowledge and skills.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.
