About The Position

To lead, oversee, and participate in the work of crews responsible for public works services including the clean-up, repair and maintenance and/or construction of streets and area parks. Perform a variety of tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

Requirements

  • Requires High School Diploma or GED
  • Two years performing maintenance work involving the operation of moderate to light construction and maintenance equipment.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within one year, commercial certified applicator of pesticides license.
  • Perform a variety of skilled construction and maintenance tasks
  • Perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods of time in unfavorable weather conditions
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities including walking, standing, bending, sitting for extended periods of time and operating various types of equipment or vehicles.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Operation and maintenance of various types of equipment and heavy equipment.
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices; and use of hazardous chemical, herbicides and fertilizers.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

Nice To Haves

  • Two years supervisor experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within department.
  • Monitor workers to ensure their safety and to ensure safety regulations are followed, warning those who violate safety regulations.
  • Direct, assign, participate and review the work of employees providing maintenance and repairs for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques and compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
  • Operate, maintain and repair any type of heavy equipment or equipment used in maintenance or repairs of streets and parks.
  • Identify needs for assigned projects.
  • Estimate time, materials and equipment required and request materials as needed.
  • Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner. Provide information within area of assignment and resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Maintain any daily logs or operation records and file reports as needed.
  • Perform duties related to the installation, maintenance, repair, tear-down and storage of the Festival of Lights.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested.
