About The Position

The Underground Crew Leader position is a skilled position in the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical underground distribution systems. This role involves working safely on new construction, maintenance, or repair of energized and de-energized underground electrical systems. The Crew Leader supervises crew members, possesses working knowledge of leadership and management skills, and is capable of leading and training lower-skilled employees in safe and productive work procedures. They are also responsible for leading and teaching underground services, infrastructure, and duct banks, conducting pre-job or tailgate briefings, and troubleshooting problems on underground circuits. A significant aspect of the role involves working with energized high voltage systems, requiring skill and care to ensure safety. The position also includes maintaining company vehicles, equipment, and tools, complying with reporting procedures and completing paperwork, coordinating and inspecting crew work, and performing rigorous physical labor. Specific technical skills include identifying primary and secondary voltage, understanding induced voltage, knowing tools for cable termination, grounding procedures, obtaining a one shot on a reclosure, working in confined spaces, properly installing and removing PPE and cover-up, testing and classifying soil, safely operating equipment, phasing out a line, planning safe work based on job prints, understanding sloping and shoring, knowledge of ladder requirements, requesting and taking line clearances, knowledge of line protection devices, inspecting rubber goods and PPE, and identifying puller and tensioner setups. The role also requires understanding flag and tag procedures, possessing a CDL and demonstrating safe driving, and performing other related work as required.

• Able to travel long distances on short notice, when required.

• Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required.
• Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
• Must be able to work outside, frequently in inclement weather.
