About The Position

This position is responsible for supervising a crew of personnel engaged in stormwater maintenance and repair duties. Plans, assigns, schedules, directs, and supervises the work of an assigned crew engaged in maintenance and construction projects as it relates to the municiple stormwater drainage system. Supervises the maintainenance of crew vehicle; checks gas, oil, brake lights, and other systems for needed repair; maintains vehicle fire extinguisher and first aid kit. Performs inspections of safety equipment including work zone safety signage, cones, glasses, gloves, and vests. Enforces work site safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Loads and unloads equipment; transports equipment (including heavy equipment) and crew to work sites. Maintains inventory of all supplies and equipment. Supervises and participates in repair and maintenance activities both in municiple stormwater and combined stormwater systems; repairs cave-ins on storm sewer boxes; repairs cave-ins on storm sewer pipes; replaces pipe joints; operates heavy equipment as needed (excavator, back-hoe, skid steer…); replaces broken grates and inlets; builds inlet boxes; repairs brick walkways; lines existing degraded pipes; rehabilitates manholes/catch basins; conducts bank stabilazitation; repairs erosion; and maintain watershed lakes and detention ponds to meet EPD compliance. Completes required records. Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques utilized in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the storm water system.
  • Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the storm water system.
  • Skill in the investigation and resolution of drainage problems.
  • Skill in implementing policies and procedures.
  • Skill in problem solving and decision making.
  • Skill in management and supervision.
  • Skill in operating standard office equipment.
  • Skill in the operation of a dump truck and backhoe.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for three to five years.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Confined Space Certification
  • Georgia Soil & Erosion Certification (Blue-Red Card).
