About The Position

As set forth by the Public Works (PW) Maintenance Custodial Foreman, this role coordinates and supervises the daily activities of PW Maintenance Custodians engaged in the maintenance of City buildings, facilities, and adjacent grounds. The Crew Leader acts as the lead for their crew and is responsible for the crew’s daily activities and work performance. This position directly oversees the daily activities and work assignments of 10-15 Public Works Maintenance Custodians. Responsibilities include ensuring safety guidelines are met, training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, and addressing complaints and resolving problems. The role also involves ordering and maintaining janitorial supplies, assisting with equipment needs and budget preparation, and responding to emergency and bio-hazard spills. The employee must be able to read and comprehend safety rules, regulations, policies, and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs), and follow security procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and seven (7) years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance, and taste or smell.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Follows all security procedures when locking and unlocking buildings.
  • Reports any personnel issues.
