This position is responsible for managing small field crews and conducting archaeological fieldwork, monitoring, and research associated with archaeological projects. The role involves ensuring crew safety, maintaining project documents, leading crews in the field, assisting with scheduling fieldwork logistics, and assisting with archaeological reporting under the direction of the Section Head or Senior Archaeologist and Principal Investigator. Preference is for individuals willing to work from or relocate to JMT office locations in Houston or Round Rock, Texas.

  • Ability to instruct field crews on equipment, technology, and field methods
  • Ability to assist in writing sections of archaeological reports and/or prepare archaeological site forms
  • Ability to perform site mapping tasks
  • Ability to maintain/repair field gear
  • Ability to document completed field efforts in a standardized format
  • Ability to lead and manage field team members
  • Eligible for TN visa classification

Responsibilities

  • Leads team through project field work to effectively execute project tasks
  • Leads Phase I archaeological field work to locate and identify sites
  • Conducts archaeological monitoring during construction projects or pre-construction
  • Collects data and field samples during archaeological investigations
  • Analyzes historic and pre-historic artifacts
  • Takes daily notes of field progress
  • Schedule fieldwork based on project schedule
  • Instructs field crews on how to use equipment, technology and field methods, as required
  • Assists in writing sections of archaeological reports and/or prepare archaeological site forms
  • Perform site mapping tasks as needed
  • Maintain/repair field gear as needed
  • Document completed field efforts in standardized format
  • Lead and manage field team members by providing leadership and continuous performance management (setting expectations, goals, feedback, 1:1 meeting, coaching) that supports the growth and development of team
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
