About The Position

This position is focused on the operations of the Crematory and handling of human remains. It is intended to provide seamless coordination between the ‘front-end’ of our funeral operations (PNW & Heritage) and the back-end Crematory process. The Crematory Operator will uphold a Crematory Operator’s Certification at all times of employment. This person will also facilitate the proper training of those who will operate the crematory in his/her absence. This person will also assist the Prep & Receiving Supervisor with first-calls, and additional preparations as needed and requested.

minimum of 1-year work experience in the funeral profession, with extensive experience in crematory operation
uphold a Crematory Operators Certification while employed
at minimum a Washington State Embalmers Internship license
responsible for obtaining the required continuing educations credits (as required for licensure), as well as maintaining records associated with licensure
Valid state driver’s license with insurable driving history

Identifies human remains for cremation
Direct contact for funeral operations to contact in relation to cremation process
Fills urns, keepsakes, jewelry
Takes fingerprints
Responsible for checking cremation authorizations for accuracy
Return messages/calls in a timely manner
Assists with preparing human remains for viewing (dressing, casketing, cosmetics, restoration)
Maintains organized cooler
First point of contact for first-calls that come in during the day
Determine who is available to go on calls during the day
Complete first-calls/removals during and after business hours as needed
Responsible for keeping inventory of crematory & related supplies
Orders supplies for crematory as needed
Flexibility to initiate new forms, policy & procedure related to crematory operations
Key-in on trends or additional needs, ideas as related to case load
Light janitorial duties and maintains a clean and clear work station
Assist others within the organization of Fairmount Memorial Association
Maintains active role and involvement in community and civic affairs
Performs other duties as assigned. Job duties are subject to change as directed by management.
