About The Position

Our client is seeking an experienced Credit Risk Manager to join its Risk Management function in Malta. This is a second line of defence role responsible for providing independent oversight and challenge across the Bank's risk management framework, with a particular focus on credit risk while also supporting broader enterprise risk activities. The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening the Bank's risk governance framework, monitoring the risk profile, supporting regulatory initiatives, and ensuring compliance with regulatory expectations and industry best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Banking & Finance, Economics, Risk Management, Accounting or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience within risk management, credit risk, ICAAP/ILAAP, internal audit or a similar control function in financial services.
  • Strong understanding of banking regulation, corporate governance and enterprise risk management principles.
  • Experience performing independent risk assessments, control reviews and risk reporting.
  • Excellent analytical, communication and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to challenge stakeholders constructively while maintaining independence.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting ICAAP, ILAAP, stress testing or Recovery Planning will be considered an asset.
  • Professional qualifications such as FRM, PRM or CFA are considered an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Support the identification, assessment, monitoring and reporting of the Bank's key risks, including credit, liquidity, operational, conduct, concentration and IRRBB risk.
  • Maintain and enhance the Bank's Risk Management Framework, Risk Appetite Framework, policies and procedures.
  • Monitor risk appetite metrics, KRIs and risk limits, investigating breaches and escalating material issues where appropriate.
  • Provide independent second line oversight and challenge across first line risk activities, controls and decision-making processes.
  • Conduct risk assessments, thematic reviews and control testing to evaluate the effectiveness of the Bank's control environment.
  • Monitor the Bank's credit portfolio, including arrears, non-performing exposures (NPEs), recoveries, concentration risk and portfolio trends.
  • Review and challenge credit underwriting standards, lending strategies and portfolio monitoring processes.
  • Assess credit risk methodologies, impairment approaches and IFRS 9 assumptions, supporting ongoing model validation and enhancement.
  • Investigate operational risk events, control failures and incidents, ensuring appropriate remediation actions are implemented.
  • Prepare risk reports and management information for Senior Management, Board Committees and the Board.
  • Support ICAAP, ILAAP, Recovery Planning, stress testing and contingency funding activities.
  • Assist during regulatory inspections, supervisory reviews and internal audits, ensuring timely delivery of documentation and effective follow-up of remediation plans.
