About The Position

The Quantitative Credit Risk Analyst will support the Political Risk and Trade Credit Underwriting team by conducting thorough financial, credit, and country risk assessments of counterparties, sectors, and sovereigns. This role is focused on providing high-quality, data-driven analysis to enable informed underwriting decisions and effective portfolio management. The analyst will contribute to the department’s risk selection, exposure monitoring, and policy development, ensuring alignment with the company’s risk appetite and strategic objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, International Relations, or a related field; advanced degree or CFA designation preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in credit analysis, banking, trade finance, ratings, insurance, or a related risk management function.
  • Strong financial statement analysis, credit modeling, and quantitative analytical skills, including experience with portfolio analytics, stress testing, forecasting, or risk assessment methodologies.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with one or more analytical tools such as Python, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, R, or similar platforms preferred.
  • Knowledge of political and country risk factors impacting international trade and investment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret and communicate complex analytical findings.
  • Proficiency with credit research databases (e.g., Capital IQ, Moody's, Fitch) and experience preparing reports and presentations for business stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic underwriting environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop credit profiles and internal ratings to support underwriting decisions.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance quantitative credit risk models to assess counterparty creditworthiness, expected loss potential, and emerging credit risks.
  • Monitor geopolitical and macroeconomic developments affecting trade credit and political risk exposures.
  • Assess sovereign and country risk, including transfer risk, expropriation, and political instability.
  • Contribute to country risk ratings and exposure management strategies.
  • Provide objective credit and political risk analysis to underwriters for new submissions and renewals.
  • Draft concise credit memoranda summarizing key risks and recommendations for internal review.
  • Support structuring, pricing, and risk selection through quantitative analysis of historical loss experience, portfolio performance, and predictive risk indicators.
  • Track counterparty and country exposures across the portfolio.
  • Monitor and escalate adverse credit or political developments that may impact insured risks.
  • Conduct quantitative portfolio analytics, including stress testing, scenario analysis, concentration risk assessment, sensitivity testing, and trend analysis to identify emerging risk exposures and support portfolio optimization.
  • Support the development and automation of analytical reporting, dashboards, and risk monitoring tools using data visualization and business intelligence platforms.
  • Work closely with underwriters, actuaries, claims, and other internal teams to support disciplined risk evaluation.
  • Contribute to refining risk assessment methodologies, models, and underwriting tools.
  • Prepare internal reports and presentations for risk committees and senior management.
