About The Position

The Credit Research Analyst is responsible for turning analytical work into evidence for the Credit & Pricing team. This role involves building and owning the data that drives credit policy decisions, the pipelines that feed them, the reporting that monitors them, and the analysis that tests whether a policy is performing as expected. The position is hands-on with real ownership, requiring the analyst to answer questions using databases and defend their findings. The Credit & Pricing team determines who Sunlight lends to, on what terms, and at what price.

Requirements

  • Authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now and on an ongoing and indefinite basis.
  • Able to work a hybrid schedule in our Charlotte, NC office.
  • 1–5 years of hands-on analytical experience.
  • Strong SQL, with experience querying and transforming real-world datasets.
  • Hands-on Python across more than one context (e.g., data wrangling, automation, analysis, API integration).
  • Experience building or contributing to data pipelines or automated workflows.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical findings to business stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to consumer lending, credit risk, fintech, or financial services.
  • Experience with dashboarding and reporting tools, and a track record of visualizations.
  • Familiarity with analytical database work generally.
  • Hands-on experience with LLM APIs.
  • Experience on a small, fast-moving team where the scope was not fully defined.

Responsibilities

  • Own Definite, the analytics platform, including performance and investor tape refreshes.
  • Build and maintain recurring credit and portfolio reporting for the team, lenders, and investors.
  • Design, automate, and monitor Python workflows for moving and transforming credit and loan performance data.
  • Conduct credit research and ad hoc analysis to answer questions from Credit, Finance, Underwriting, Capital Markets, and Product.
  • Maintain definitions, standards, and documentation for credit data to ensure trustworthiness as the portfolio grows.
