About The Position

The Credit Recovery Paraeducator - High School position is responsible for organizing and managing the daily operations of the Credit Recovery program. This role involves monitoring students in a highly structured educational environment, where students work with the paraeducator to complete online coursework to recover lost credits and stay on track for graduation. The paraeducator will directly supervise assigned students, monitor their academic assignments and behavior, and tutor them in areas of difficulty. They will also assist students in time management to ensure assignments are completed within deadlines and enforce established rules of conduct. Additionally, the paraeducator will maintain student information and statistics, assist in supervisory areas when no students are assigned to Credit Recovery, and support school counselors and administrators in student-related activities. This role requires attending professional development, respecting student confidentiality, and exhibiting a positive working relationship with students and staff, while adhering to all school and district policies.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or have GED
  • Some experience working with children in an educational setting
  • Some technology experience/skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Interest in young people and an ability to deal fairly and tactfully with students
  • Positive attitude toward education and a helpful attitude toward people
  • Ability to establish and effective working relationships with students, administration, and faculty
  • Good working knowledge of core area subject matter and a willingness to learn
  • Ability to carry out assignment in effective support of the instructional program
  • First Aid/CPR certificate desired

Responsibilities

  • Organize and manage the daily operation of the Credit Recovery program.
  • Monitor students in a highly structured educational environment.
  • Monitor students' online academic assignments and behavior.
  • Tutor students in areas of learning not understood.
  • Assist students in managing their time so that all assignments are completed within the assigned time limits.
  • Enforce established rules of conduct in the Credit Recovery room.
  • Maintain student information and statistics for a Credit Recovery Summary report at the end of each quarter.
  • When no students are assigned to Credit Recovery, be on call to assist in supervisory areas as assigned by the Special Education Department Chairperson/Building Administrator.
  • Demonstrate the ability and willingness to perform and fulfill assigned duties as designated by the Special Education Department Chairperson/Building Administrator.
  • Assist with the evaluation, monitoring, and supervision of students’ work.
  • Assist students in performing activities initiated by the school counselors, Special Education Department Chairperson/Building Administrator.
  • Attend professional development meetings and workshops for paraeducators.
  • Respect the confidentiality of information about students and communicate progress or concerns about students to parents or staff only with the authorization of the Special Education Department Chairperson/Building Administrator.
  • Exhibit a positive working relationship with students and staff.
  • Follow all rules and regulations relating to school and district policies.
  • Perform other related duties which may be assigned by the Special Education Department Chairperson/Building Administrator.
