About The Position

The Credit Manager plays a critical role in safeguarding the financial health of the business by ensuring disciplined, responsible, and commercially sound lending practices. This role leads the Credit function to deliver timely, high-quality credit assessments while optimising portfolio performance. The Credit Manager partners closely with Sales to support business growth, identifying opportunities to onboard new clients, increase credit limits, and expand existing relationships. Working in close collaboration with Risk, the role ensures that credit policies remain robust, responsive, and aligned with the organisation’s risk appetite and strategic objectives.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5–7 years’ experience in credit risk, lending, or financial services.
  • Proven experience in a credit decisioning or credit underwriting environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing or mentoring credit analysts or similar teams.
  • Strong understanding of credit risk principles, financial analysis, and lending frameworks.
  • Experience working with credit policies, scoring models, and risk-based pricing concepts.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to balance growth and risk.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong stakeholder engagement capability.
  • Experience in SME lending, fintech, or non-bank lending environments.
  • Exposure to portfolio analytics, credit strategy, or risk modelling.
  • Experience working closely with Sales teams in structuring and approving complex deals.
  • Familiarity with regulatory credit frameworks relevant to lending jurisdictions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of credit policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and the organisation’s risk appetite.
  • Design and optimise credit decisioning frameworks, including credit scoring models and risk-based pricing strategies, to support consistent and commercially sound lending outcomes.
  • Conduct regular reviews of credit policies and frameworks, proactively updating them in response to market conditions, portfolio performance, and regulatory changes.
  • Oversee and, where required, directly assess complex or high-value credit applications, evaluating financial information, credit history, and other relevant risk indicators.
  • Ensure credit decisions are made in a timely, consistent, and well-documented manner, aligned with approved policies and delegated authority limits.
  • Exercise sound commercial and risk judgment in all decisioning, balancing growth objectives with prudent risk management.
  • Communicate credit decisions clearly and professionally to internal stakeholders and clients, maintaining strong customer service standards while managing expectations.
  • Deliver accurate, insightful, and timely reporting on credit performance, including portfolio composition, approval trends, and key risk metrics, to senior management.
  • Provide actionable insights on loan book performance and segmentation to support strategic decision-making and portfolio optimisation.
  • Partner closely with Sales, Risk, and other business units to ensure alignment between credit strategy and broader business objectives.
  • Promote strong understanding and consistent application of credit policies and procedures across the team through clear communication and ongoing guidance.
