About The Position

Jim Peplinski Capital (JPC) has been financing vehicles and equipment for Canadian businesses for more than 35 years. We are growing, and we are looking for a Credit Manager who likes to make decisions, solve problems and get things done. Credit is a big part of how we compete. We want to make strong credit decisions quickly, find a way to say yes when the deal makes sense, and know when to say no.

Requirements

  • 6–10 years of experience in credit risk, underwriting or portfolio management within consumer and business lending.
  • Experience in fleet management, automotive finance, equipment finance, or specialty lending.
  • Ability to read financial statements and understand the story behind the numbers.
  • Comfortable making a decision with incomplete information.
  • Ability to balance risk with the commercial reality of getting deals done.
  • Willingness to engage in difficult conversations with customers or internal teams.
  • Understanding of collections, workouts, collateral and lien management.
  • Comfortable rolling up your sleeves and fixing a process when it isn’t working.
  • Ability to lead a small team without needing layers of management around you.
  • Good judgment, clear communication, and ownership.
  • Post-secondary education in Finance, Business, Economics or a related field.
  • Experience with AML/FINTRAC obligations in a lending context.

Responsibilities

  • Review and approve commercial and individual credit applications.
  • Analyze financial statements, cash flow, collateral and deal structure and make clear, timely decisions.
  • Work with Sales to find practical solutions and structure deals that work for both JPC and the customer.
  • Develop pricing and terms that reflect the risk in each deal.
  • Set and improve credit policies, underwriting standards and approval guidelines.
  • Monitor the portfolio and stay on top of delinquencies, losses, concentrations and emerging problems.
  • Get involved when accounts go sideways – collections, workouts, repossessions, insurance claims and recoveries.
  • Review credit lines and make sure security, PPSA, AML/FINTRAC and other requirements are properly maintained.
  • Help build better systems and processes, including automated credit decisioning.
  • Report on portfolio performance and flag problems before they become bigger problems.
  • Lead and coach a team of three credit professionals.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation
  • Performance bonus
  • Comprehensive health and dental benefits from day one
