About The Position

Fitch Ratings, a leading credit ratings agency with over 100 years of experience, is seeking an Analyst or Senior Analyst for its US Public Finance Local Government Rating Group. This group is responsible for assigning and monitoring ratings for local government and special purpose district issuers across the United States, focusing on general obligation, lease revenue, and dedicated tax and revenue bonds. The role involves analyzing quantitative and qualitative factors, preparing rating models, reviewing financial reports, identifying rating-relevant issues, meeting with issuers, and presenting rating recommendations to the rating committee. The position will also involve supporting the publication of rating action commentaries and research reports, attending industry events, and interacting with market participants.

Requirements

  • 3 years of relevant research or analytical experience in U.S. public finance
  • Demonstrate strong analytical, quantitative, and organizational skills
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Can shift between multiple projects as priorities change

Nice To Haves

  • Global Credit Certificate (MICP), CFA or master’s degree in finance, business or public administration preferred
  • Rating agency or financial advisory experience
  • Experience interacting with local government issuers, investors, financial advisors and bankers

Responsibilities

  • Analyze quantitative and qualitative factors to prepare Fitch’s Local Government Rating Model for assigning new and monitoring existing ratings
  • Review annual comprehensive financial reports, budgets, capital plans and other public disclosure statements
  • Identify rating-relevant issues for review by the analytical team and rating committee
  • Meet with issuers and their fiscal agents during management meetings
  • Present rating recommendations and serve as voting member on rating committees
  • Support publication of rating action commentaries, research reports and Fitch Wires
  • Attend industry events and interact with investors, bankers, and other market participants
