About The Position

Bank Michigan is seeking a Credit Analyst II to evaluate the financial condition of individuals and businesses applying for credit. This role involves preparing financial analyses, reports, and summaries for Loan Officers, identifying trends, and providing guidance to other Credit Analysts. The position requires a strong understanding of credit policies and regulations, and the ability to make recommendations to loan committees. Some hybrid-remote flexibility is available, but the candidate must reside within a commutable distance to a Bank Michigan office for at least 3 days per week in-office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, accounting, economics, finance or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of prior commercial credit analysis experience required.
  • Superior attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Successful completion of in-house training program.
  • Ability to work autonomously and with little guidance.
  • Displays the confidence and competence to gain/maintain the Bank's credibility.
  • Takes initiative to learn, develop oneself and see things through from start to finish.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, problem solving and computer skills; ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to converse verbally and in writing with others.
  • Ability to utilize general office equipment, Internet and various business software programs (i.e. MS office).
  • Ability to travel within the community to attend various events and meetings.
  • Must successfully complete a comprehensive background check.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the administration of the company's commercial loan portfolios, including credit risk management and underwriting.
  • Ensures execution of loan policies and proper reporting of deviations.
  • Reviews and interprets new laws and regulations affecting business practices.
  • Underwrites commercial loan packages, assessing creditworthiness, recommending loan structures, and analyzing financial statements.
  • Takes the lead on complex credit files and consults with senior credit officers on unusual loan relationships.
  • Provides direction, guidance, training, and mentoring to other Credit Analysts.
  • Tracks and records annual customer tax returns and monthly/quarterly financial statements.
  • Updates the core system with necessary information for asset-based lending controls.
  • Reviews lending policies regularly.
  • Orders and reviews required loan due diligence (appraisals, evaluations, valuations, environmental reports).
  • Assists in coordinating with the compliance manager regarding lending practices and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepares presentations on credit risk for senior staff and the board.
  • Assists in the loan/overdrawn account collections process.
  • Assists the Senior/Chief Credit Officer with monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Serves as a resource for credit policy and procedure interpretation for commercial lending officers.
  • Conducts regular Loan Reviews of commercial, residential, and consumer loan files.
  • Acts as an advocate for the Bank, promoting product knowledge.
  • Attends regular trainings/seminars.
  • Works collaboratively with team members.
  • Assists with other duties as assigned.
