About The Position

Under the supervision of the Director Medical/House Staff Services Department, the Credentialing Specialist processes credentialing and re-credentialing applications of health care providers appointed through the Medical Board and Governing Body, reviews applications, prepares verification letters and maintains database. This is a temporary position that may end at any time.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree and at least 3 years of administrative experience or, in lieu of a degree, at least 5 years of administrative experience.
  • Computer skills that include Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • Database Experience.
  • Detail oriented and excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a very busy office with constant interruptions.
  • Verification of degree (e.g., diploma or official transcript) is required for this role.

  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services
  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using a medical staff database, preferably Symplr.
  • Knowledge of JC, DOH & NCQA regulations as it pertains to medical staff credentialing.
  • Experience performing medical staff credentialing, preferably for a hospital.
  • CPCS or CPMSM Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Process the credentialing and re-credentialing applications of physicians and allied health providers (psychologists, podiatrists, speech and language therapists, physician assistants, audiologists, optometrists, nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, and nurse anesthetists) in accordance with the medical staff and medical board policies, bylaws rules and regulations, Department of Health, JCAHO and NCQA regulations.
  • Analyze applications for accuracy and completion.
  • Communicate with applicant and department liaisons for information to complete application processing.
  • Responsible for inputting and maintaining accurate and timely data into the Medical Staff and various hospital wide databases.
  • Responsible for creating reports, applications and documents from the Medical Staff database.
  • Responsible for tracking expirations and updating licenses/certifications/activities required of the medical/allied staff while adhering to very stringent deadlines.
  • Responding to and requesting verifications from outside sources as per NYS DOH regulations and medical staff policy.
  • Other duties as assigned.
