About The Position

The Credentialing Specialist plays a crucial role in coordinating and processing credentialing and privileging for medical staff. This position involves managing applications, verifying information, maintaining databases, and supporting practitioners throughout the credentialing and reappointment processes. The specialist also assists with committee meetings, serves as a resource for hospital staff and physicians, and performs additional duties as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2 years of medical staff or hospital credentialing experience required.
  • Computer/word processing and database management skills, including high-speed typing.
  • Secretarial and office skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree preferred.
  • Certified as a Medical Staff Coordinator upon hire preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and process requests for applications, evaluating eligibility for application receipt according to bylaws.
  • Initiate the information collection, verification, and documentation process for complete applications.
  • Enter or post requested privileges in the database.
  • Provide statistical information on the credentialing process by accurately recording start and complete dates.
  • Manage and maintain accurate and up-to-date online portal database and credentials files for all appointees as assigned.
  • Provide follow-up support to all practitioners as needed.
  • Monitor the reappointment process from initiation to completion according to established policies and procedures.
  • Ensure timely completion of reappointment application process and renewing of privileges.
  • Prepare agendas for committee meetings in collaboration with the meeting Chair and other involved staff members.
  • Make other preparations for committee meetings, including reserving a room and sending notifications.
  • Attend meetings, record accurate minutes, and follow up as appropriate.
  • Facilitate election of new Department officers and review and recommend privilege revisions as needed.
  • Serve as a resource for hospital staff, physicians, APPs, AHPs, and their office staff in relation to Medical Staff activities.
  • Perform additional duties that are temporary in nature due to business needs, including development of credentialing criteria for new privileges, processing requests for additional privileges, responding to both internal and external customers requiring reports or information, and special projects.
