Valley Veterinary Service is seeking a Credentialed Veterinary Technician to join their AAHA certified team. This role involves working alongside veterinarians to ensure animal health and well-being, applying expertise in medical procedures, laboratory work, patient care, and client education. The clinic has been serving the Mon-Valley and surrounding areas for over 50 years and prides itself on its dedicated, Fear Free Certified team committed to educating clients and fostering healthy relationships between pets and their people. They offer behavior services with a Certified Trainer and uphold high standards for their associates, emphasizing care, empathy, and a desire to serve.

Requirements

  • Hold an associate degree in veterinary technology from an accredited program.
  • Sit for and successfully passed a national licensing exam.
  • Demonstrate a strong foundation in science, effective communication skills, and a genuine compassion for animals.
  • Be detail-oriented, capable of multitasking, and able to handle the emotional aspects of working in animal healthcare.
  • Meet state licensing requirements via certification. Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE) is a common requirement.
  • Depending on state, earned a title of “Registered (RVT)”, “Licensed (LVT)” or “Certified (CVT)”.
  • Complete continuing education to maintain licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in medical procedures, including surgery assistance, anesthesia monitoring, and diagnostic imaging.
  • Conduct various laboratory tests, such as blood work and urinalysis.
  • Play a pivotal role in post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and ensuring the overall comfort and recovery of animals.
  • Engage with pet owners, providing valuable information about post-treatment care, medication administration, and preventive health measures.
  • Assist in surgical procedures, preparing the operating room, handling instruments, and providing support to veterinarians during surgery.
  • Monitor anesthesia during procedures, ensuring the safety and well-being of animals under sedation.
  • Collect blood samples, conduct hematological analyses, and interpret results to aid in diagnosing various medical conditions.
  • Perform and interpret diagnostic imaging, such as X-rays.
  • Oversee the recovery of patients, administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and providing comfort to animals post-surgery.
  • Administer medications as prescribed by veterinarians, ensuring proper dosage and monitoring for any adverse reactions.
  • Educate pet owners on post-treatment care, including medication administration, wound care, and signs of potential complications.
  • Offer guidance on preventive health measures, nutrition, and routine care.
