About The Position

The Credentialed Teacher supports academic enrichment and tutoring activities in an after-school program. Under the direct supervision of the ASAS-LA Program Coordinator, the teacher helps provide a safe school setting where youth can learn and develop. This is an at-will, part-time position with benefits, paying $35.00 per hour. The position is in Los Angeles, California, ZIP code 90047.

Requirements

Experience working with K–12 students in a classroom in an educational or community youth outreach setting.
Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with school district staff, parents, and community leaders.
Familiarity with quality criteria for academic benchmarks in English/Language Arts, Math, Science, and other core subjects.
Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate sensitivity to others.
Ability to respond to critical incidents and act swiftly in an emergency.
First Aid and CPR certification.
Current teaching credential.
Criminal record clearance through fingerprinting before working with youth.
TB test clearance on or before the start date, within 60 days of start.
Physical ability to lead and participate in structured activities.

Responsibilities

Lead and assist with planning and implementing the program’s daily academic and tutoring support initiatives under the Program Coordinator’s direction.
Help prepare a rigorous academic environment and use sound classroom management practices, including preparing necessary supplies and materials.
Supervise participants in the classroom.
Advise and communicate with participants and families about questions or concerns related to a child’s well-being.
Maintain a professional attitude.
Communicate with the Program Coordinator and school staff about class and club activities.
Communicate with parents and families about program activities.
Perform other reasonable related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or director.
