About The Position

The Credentialed Medical Assistant works under the supervision of the Office Manager, Operations Manager, Office Supervisor, and/or Family Health Center Manager. The primary job function is to provide assistance to the provider with patient exams. This includes collecting patient vitals, documenting medical history and current complaints, sending prescriptions to pharmacies, operating medical equipment, and potentially performing patient education. The role also involves ordering medical supplies and performing other assigned duties. The position requires cross-training for Medical Office Assistant duties and may involve floating to other Medical Care Foundation offices as needed. Responsibilities include managing patient care in collaboration with the healthcare team, instrument processing, vaccine and medication management, document import, handling electronic prescriptions, and obtaining insurance authorizations. The role also involves assisting the provider in navigating the medical record and documenting services performed by the provider.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
  • Credentialed Medical Assistant - CMA, RMA, CCMA, NCMA, AMCA required.
  • BLS within 90 days of hire required

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance to the provider with patient exams.
  • Collects data on patient vitals, documents patient medical history and current complaints.
  • Phones/electronically sends prescriptions to pharmacies.
  • Operates various medical equipment.
  • May perform patient education.
  • Orders all medical supplies.
  • Makes phone calls for patient referrals and prescription requests and documents into the patients’ charts.
  • Assists the provider with patient examinations, procedures, venipuncture, and other diagnostic testing.
  • Collects and documents patient vitals, chief complaints, pain assessment, and past medical history.
  • Organizes drug closet.
  • Ensures that clinical supplies are properly stocked.
  • Reviews charts for next day’s appointments and pulls lab results, etc. as necessary.
  • Logs and updates medication lists for patients.
  • Assists with answering phones, scheduling appointments and scanning.
  • Works with Surgery Department and Central Scheduling on scheduling procedures.
  • Contacts insurance companies to obtain necessary Authorization/Precertification.
  • Manages the care of the patient in collaboration with other members of the health care team in order to meet the health care needs of the patient.
  • Performs pre-cleaning, decontamination, and transports instruments that have been used on patients appropriately.
  • Cross-trained to perform MOA duties.
  • Floats to other Medical Care Foundation offices as needed.
  • Follows vaccine and medication management policy.
  • Performs document import daily.
  • Reviews and handles ERX request with providers direction.
  • Handles "failed" and "error" electronic prescriptions.
  • Follows medical record documentation procedure as detailed in the MCF Documentation Assistant policy.
  • Assists the provider in navigating the medical record.
  • Present during the provider’s performance of a clinical service and documents (on behalf of the provider) everything said during the course of the service.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Performs and maintains other LPN duties as related to physician office operations.
  • Conducts monthly inspections of all supplies and medications to assess expiration dates and disposes of expired items per policy.
  • May be asked to provide coverage in other areas of the Foundation offices.
  • Pre-cleans, decontaminates and transports contaminated instruments according to policy.
  • Cross train to perform Medical Office Assistant duties.
  • Performs intermediate-level disinfection and/or high level disinfection per the instructions for use (IFU) by the manufacturer. This includes ensuring the scopes or probes used within the department are cleaned, disinfected, maintained, and stored per the IFU's.
  • Conducts Daily check off for AED.
  • Conducts weekly check-off on equipment per department policy.
  • Conducts Monthly check-off for eye wash.
  • Ensures patient care areas are cleaned after each patient visit per SOMC guidelines.
