About The Position

The Creative Specialist (Writer) is part of a collaborative team focused on creating meaningful and engaging experiences for Compassion supporters. This role involves owning and contributing to key recurring communications that keep supporters connected to Compassion’s mission. Additionally, the specialist develops content for fundraising campaigns, child sponsorship communications, digital content, and other creative initiatives. The role also serves as Managing Editor for Compassion Explorer, an award-winning children’s magazine, influencing its creative and editorial direction. At this career level, the incumbent balances reliable execution of recurring work with fresh thinking and creativity, generally managing projects independently or contributing to major, complex, or international creative initiatives.

Requirements

  • Approximately 7 years of professional writing, copywriting, content marketing, editorial, or communications experience.
  • Proven ability to write across multiple content types and communication channels.
  • Strong storytelling, editing, and content development skills with a commitment to quality and brand consistency.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with writers, designers, marketers, and other stakeholders.
  • Only applications with portfolios or samples attached will be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of international development, child sponsorship, or global ministry environments preferred.
  • Experience with Workfront, Adobe InCopy, or similar content management tools preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Compassion, and faithfully upholds Compassion’s ministry in prayer.
  • Acts as an advocate to raise the awareness of the needs of children. Understands Christ’s mandate to protect children. Commits to and prioritizes child protection considerations in all decision-making, tasks and activities across the ministry. Abides by all behavioral expectations in Compassion’s Statement of Commitment to Child Protection and Code of Conduct. Reports any concerns of abuse, neglect or exploitation of children through Compassion’s internal reporting process and appropriately supports responses to incidents if they occur.
  • Utilizes communication arts discipline across a variety of platforms to develop creative ideas and concepts for specified strategies, carrying them from conception to completion.
  • Develops and proposes creative solutions in response to communication strategies and goals expressed by clients.
  • Possesses a complex technical knowledge related to copywriting, marketing, and fundraising. These duties include new content for communication and marketing pieces, writing within a brand style and voice, updating previously written pieces, writing technical copy, writing creative copy, developing naming and headline concepts, writing for email, web, and print, writing for different audiences and ages, writing direct response appeals and fundraising copy.
  • Works on a team of writers and designers to execute assigned work in partnership with marketing strategists.
  • Able to effectively manage and deliver multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Develops a conceptual understanding within the parameters outlined in project creative briefs to develop effective and dynamic creative projects to promote and expand Compassion's mission. Maintains high level of quality conforming to professional standards.
  • Dedicated to developing and producing results-oriented, effective, brand-building creative solutions that support and strengthen Compassion's communications and marketing strategy — specifically focused on engaging and building our existing supporter base.
  • Works creatively within the brand standards to maintain the integrity, distinction, and consistency of the Compassion brand by adhering to the organization's brand standards and messaging guidelines.
  • May coach and provide expertise to other professionals and support staff in the creative discipline.
