About The Position

In this job you will be responsible for preparing and assembling wooden containers and packing large and heavy products and fragile apparatus for shipment. As a Crater you will construct non-standard boxes, crates, or skids for domestic or foreign shipments. You will select materials for packing or protection of product and the method of bracing or blocking to prevent shifting while in transit. You will check orders against bills of material to ensure that all components are included, and report shortages or errors. You will assemble orders, count, weigh, move or direct movement to the designated floor location using hand trucks, pallet jacks or hoists. You will record date and quantity, method of shipment and verify by signing initials. You will mark order number on crates or packages with sales order number. You will maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. You will conserve resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results. You will contribute to team effort by training others in performance of basic crating tasks as needed. You will inspect all work prior to passing it on to the next operation. You will document actions by completing production and quality forms.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, GED or combination of work experience and skill development
  • Able to safely use small hand and power tools
  • Experience using table and band saws
  • Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations and accurate measuring
  • Has basic computer skills
  • Able to read instructions and understand verbal instructions in English

Nice To Haves

  • 0-1 year experience working in a manufacturing environment or basic carpentry skills
  • Can read and interpret Drawings and Bills of Material
