About The Position

The incumbent performs the duties of rigging works in preparation to crane lift. Performs rigging planning, load evaluation and calculations, rigging selection, hooking-up slings and signaling crane operator. Utilizes forklift trucks or dolly for movement, loading, unloading of supplies, material, heavy or cumbersome objects or equipment; selecting and implementing properly sized wheels, pulleys, cables, straps, winches, hoists, etc. for each job; cable and catenaries; installing and repairing rigging and weight handling gear on docks’ under the supervision of the Crane Rigger Supervisor. Determines the procedures, type and quantity of tools and equipment needed to execute the aforementioned operations. The incumbent must coordinate with his supervisor, all departmental matters requiring interface with outside agencies. Assemble rigging to lift NAVAID buoys, mooring buoys, hydro-pneumatic fender, ship separators and camels. Selecting appropriate wire ropes, straps, chain pull, pulleys, winches, etc. for payload. Attaches loads in a proper manner to ensure safety of personnel and load. Uses hand and power tools to accomplish these tasks. Splices wire ropes up to two (2) inches in diameter, and ¼” up to ten (10) inches circumference of three strands, six strand, eight strand, twelve strand single and double braided fibrous ropes. Responsible for all rigging work preparations, inspections and execution on all recurring work projects under the cognizant of Annex-06. Installs and repairs rigging and weight handling equipment on dock and ship side. Attaches hoists and pulling gear necessary for loading and unloading of heavy materials. Selects and assembles the proper equipment onboard to allow movement of machinery and equipment without damage to ship’s structure. Provide equipment assembly and supervision for adequate control of materials through narrow or confined areas. Installs and repairs boat and barge riggings.

Requirements

  • Familiar with all types of wire ropes, fibrous ropes, rigging and tools, hoists and equipment.
  • Knowledge in different types/classes and uses of rigging tools and equipment.
  • Must speak, read, and understand English language, both orally and in writing.
  • Must pass overseas medical screening and be in good health.

Nice To Haves

  • Trained and certified in NAVFAC P-307 and related specialized certification as Rigger is preferred.
