About The Position

Southway Crane & Rigging Inc. is looking to add experienced full-time crane operators to our growing Branch in Macon/Byron, Georgia. The role emphasizes safety first, ensuring the safe lifting of loads, proper crane setup, and maintaining customer focus. Operators must adhere to all State and Federal laws while operating motor vehicles and follow all safety and environmental policies.

Requirements

  • Must have a current state-issued Commercial Driver License (CDL).
  • Must have a current crane operating license (NCCCO).
  • 3 or more years of operating hydraulic cranes required.
  • Ability to operate a crane by viewing hand signals.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to understand instructions, applicable safety regulations, and maintain records.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems.

Responsibilities

  • Review next day's job assignments and ensure necessary rigging and equipment are ready before the end of the shift.
  • Complete and submit Field Tickets to the local branch office, noting any other chargeable equipment utilized.
  • Complete payroll book daily with hours worked and submit to the local branch office by 10:00 a.m. every Monday.
  • If not on a job assignment, inform the supervisor and remain productive by inspecting, cleaning, and performing maintenance on equipment.
  • Carry and answer phone/pagers promptly.
  • Assist in training on the safe operation of a crane.
  • Periodically review assigned crane and other model cranes' service and operation manuals.
  • Clean, inspect, and reorganize equipment in the shop and yard.
  • Clean the shop, wash rack, and break room.
  • Read, interpret, and calculate load percentage using load charts from the crane's owner and operation manual.
  • Program the crane's computer in proper set-up mode and set up the crane on location safely and professionally.
  • Determine that the signal person understands and performs proper hand signals before lifting the load.
  • Understand and perform proper rigging techniques for safe load lifting.
  • Inspect crane, truck, and/or trailer and complete a vehicle inspection report before operating the vehicle, submitting it to the local branch office.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.
